Very insightful and give the fans a snapshot of what was going through the heads of some of Capcom's staff. I think it was nice how many different game developers acknowledged Resident Evil's status and significance in the the genesis of the survival -horror genre, even though technically it wasn't the first.
As a fan of the resident evil franchise it always is disappointing when I hear news like this. After all, the more people exposed to great games on as many different platforms the better for the growth of the franchise.
However, I do think holding onto the idea that Capcom would release RE7 or something even remotely similar on the Switch is a bit of a delusional belief, especially when taking into account the hardware of Nintendo’s new console.
The way things are shaping up for the Switch is very reminiscent of its predecessors. Depending on one’s perspective that could be really good or very, very bad.
-“it's been quite a while since those games came out so there's quite a few younger staff members at Capcom who have never played the original games or are not familiar with them. We had to kind of teach those guys or get them to play, be it the Resident Evil Remake or whatever”-
This part blew my mind, lol.
I’m not saying that it should be a necessity nor a job requirement for every person who is under the resident evil umbrella (See what I did there ;) ) to have played and beaten all the old games but when you reveal information like this publicly, as shallow as this sounds, it just looks bad in the fans eyes.
To be fair though it is true the games are “old” and kudos to the team for introducing the staff who were not familiar with the earlier titles to the first few games, but still…
When I was playing I was under the assumption, like in dark souls, that blocking used up stamina/ki when blocking an attack. I played it again, bearing in mind your feedback, and noticed this was not the case. However, I did notice the stamina/ki bar took a substantial dip while blocking against certain enemies (That DAMN samurai in the second mission, eergghhh.).
Really reminds me of Demons souls in regards to being more linear than the Dark souls/Bloodborne spin offs but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The difficulty is definitely reminiscent of the souls games, that's for sure. They've also taken a lot of cues from those games such as the summoning friends/foes, retrieving "bloodstains", as well as a whole host of rpg and inventory elements. All good things in my books.
My only gripe so far is I wish you could be more mobile while blocking as in the souls games. I used to always be blocking and waiting for an opportunity to strike in the Souls games but in Nioh I hardly find myself blocking at all. I notice myself attacking then moving away, attacking then moving away, etc...
Still, I'm not done the demo but so far from what I've played it seems like it's heading in the right direction.
Wait, so is this an actual full game and not DLC? Past reports have hinted at that but still nothing conclusive. I do recall an article where they claimed it would be longer than the Last of US' DLC yet shorter than Uncharted 4 but to say that's a vague statement is actually quite an understatement.
