Not NHL, but Top Prospect and (probably) future Blue Jacket (:P) Nail Yakupov was suspended 2 games for missing the CHL Top Prospects Game. He missed it because his doctor told him it was in his best interest to miss it since he has been injured since the Gold medal final at the WJHC.
How the hell can you suspend a player for not going to a game that is not mandatory and following the wishes of his doctor? This sends a message that selling the game and Yakupov's his name out there is more important than his health.
[QUOTE="JohnBean42"]49 shots for the Sens, yet the Leafs dominated the entire way through. 49 shots, but not a lot were....high percentage shots. Lot of outside chances. But 49 saves is 49 saves. Great performance.F*CK YES!! OPTIMUS REIM IS BACK BABY!!
Um, sorry, got a little carried away:P What a game though.

I've seen that before, hilarious. :P And holy geez Sam Gagner, it looks like he's ready to go 16 in 2.Talks are starting to get serious about Seattle getting a franchise soon, granted we can get an arena planned. I would be stoked.monkeytoes61
Link to this? I know there has definitely been interest, but I haven't seen anything recently. Would be pretty cool to see the first American city that won the Stanley Cup in the NHL.
And that leads to naming. Would they bring back the Seattle Metropolitans name like the new Ottawa Senators and Winnipeg Jets have, despite not having a shared history? Or will it be something different? Seeing the Seattle Sounders of the MLS makes me think that the NHL could work just as well, they're even more rowdy than Toronto FC fans I'd say. At least they've also been to the playoffs, unlike TFC. :c
Again, it'd be pretty cool to see a team from there. (:
I didn't watch the Leafs/Oilers game tonight, just caught the recap. Good to see that they held off Gagner for only one point on the night. :P
Hopefully they crash down the Jets tomorrow, and if Pittsburgh and New Jersey lose in regulation tomorrow, tied for 5th in the East. Boston's division lead isn't looking that much safer anymore. ;)
The Leafs probably won't capture the division, but the point is that nobody is safe at this point. A win tomorrow and then a win in Philadelphia could put us tied with them or two points back in the best cases.
You sure about that Boston statement? :P Sorry about not being around much. I've had internet issues at my apartment, hopefully it will be fixed today. So any thoughts on any potential trades? That Jordan Eberle kid is going to be the real deal.Los9090He was a draft steal IMO. They'll be good, but HAVE to take Ryan Murray this year in the Top 3...not Yakapov or Gavarenko (sp?).
Great game last night. Top 2 lines looking really solid, and Reimer calmed down after allowing that goal :21 in and gave us a chance to win.
I agree with gameeer1. We probably won't capture it, but it's also closer than it was 3 weeks ago. I didn't think they'd be this close. We do have to face Boston 2 more times, so, hey, who knows.
We control our own fate with 3 more against Philly, 2 vs. Boston, 2 or 3 vs the Caps, and 2 against NJ. Big games. gotta beat the teams we're suppose to (Jets, Oilers, Habs and Sens) but winning these games would be huge in getting home-ice advantage.

I can't find a specific link, it's been a lot of talk on local radio and news though. I think Hockey can work here. It already does actually. We have a WHL franchise that has a solid fanbase, despite the fact that the arena is 15 miles from downtown Seattle, and they aren't ever any good.[QUOTE="monkeytoes61"]Talks are starting to get serious about Seattle getting a franchise soon, granted we can get an arena planned. Or at least should. They have the money, the owner, and the rink, and the fan base. IMHO, I think the NHL would be crazy to take Seattle or KC over QC when dealing with the Coyotes. But I don't know that much about the Seattle situation, but I know how much QC wants a team. Even the government is backing it.

Mats Sundin tonight tomorrow...I don't get why we don't retire numbers. Sundin should get his retired.
Gameeer1, what do you think about Sundin?
Flippin' Detroit. What would be of that city if the Red Wings played like the "Dead Things"Wings win their 19th straight at home. Attempt to tie the record on Sunday against Philly who currently own the record along with the Bruins for the longest home win streak.

Nothing but the best. Apparently he "betrayed" the team, but to me those are only fans that think he "owed" us something. All he wanted was to win a championship here, and then he decided to go to Vancouver for half a season. And that's another thing about the Stanley Cup. I've been hearing countless times from other people that he "couldn't carry Gilmour's skates and didn't bring us the Cup" which is ridiculous. The very simple counter I used was "Well, Dougie and Wendel didn't win us a Cup either. Neither did Sittler in the 70s. So give your head a f***ing shake." He was hands down the best player we had post lockout before Kessel and Lupul. If people think he betrayed the orginization, so be it, his number still deserves to be up in the rafters. He's ONLY the Leafs all-time scorer in points and goals. >____> We only have to retired numbers. Bill Barilko and Ace Bailey, whose careers ended tragically while playing for the Leafs. All other numbers are "honoured" and Dave Keon has taken exception to that. And he definitely hates how ballard screwed the orginization over back then.Mats Sundin tonight tomorrow...I don't get why we don't retire numbers. Sundin should get his retired.

Leafs have to start retiring numbers. It isn't right seeing players wear #1 or #27, and now #13. There a lot of possible numbers to retire, and you gotta start somewhere. Start with Sundin. I really hope tonight they surprise us and do it.

Keon REALLY has a grudge with the MLSE still, and frankly, I don't blame him.
anyways, games were played this afternoon, Pittsburgh and Winnipeg scored often in an 8-5 win, Rangers still beat Philadelphia, Boston and Nashville go into a shooutout ending with a Bruins victory, and Taylor Hall scores a magnificent backhand on the Senators 17 seconds into Overtime.
Now it's almost time to watch another legend's number get raised to the rafters.
On a night as special as this (and Mats' speech was fantastic, couldn't help but feel a bit emotional during it, and his highlight reel), this game is a complete embarrassment. Complete lack of effort from everyone.

Do you guys think the Leafs will be buyers at the trade deadline? Swanogt19Burke realizes that the team is still young, so he isn't going to ship away too much just for one player. i would imagine he would be doing a package type of deal anyways. I'd like to see Tuomo Ruutu in a Leafs jersey. He seems to be the most likely to be traded here, unlike Rick Nash or Jeff Carter (And I don't want Carter's huge contract here).

I don't think they do anything, but another loss or 2 in a row, and things could change very quick. Ruutu would be a nice pickup at the right price.
I know opinions change on our goalies all the time, but I feel a veteran goalie would help. Like, if STL shops Halak (which I really doubt) or Nabokov is moved, I'd like them. Idk what I'd wanna give up though...MacArthur a possibility?
And Nash doesn't want to leave Columbus. He's just invoke his NTC. Especially to come to T.O....he want out of the spotlight, And there is no way in hell I want Carter. Not at that price. He's be nice though.
I would like to see Hal Gill back in Boston. I think we could use a good solid D man. Corvo was brought to help the powerplay and that has failed. IMO he's our weakest D man. Swanogt19I would actually like to see Gill back in T.O. I think our top needs are a #1 center, and a defensive Dman. Both of which, I don't think we have.
That centerman fit no one seems to talk much about, but might be shopped: Derek Roy. Not #1 compared to others, but moves the puck well, good touch...26 goals 2 years ago, 28 and then 32 before that. 10 goals in 34 games last year. I know the 'Hawks are interested.
If we get a goalie, I don't want to give up any assets like Schenn or Kadri, cause I think Reimer has a lot of potential. But for this year, maybe we need a vet.
Speaking of the 'Hawks....8 straight losses. And they're a really good team. Is Quinville's job in jeopardy? Maybe.
