That being said, the console games market is in a state of upheaval, so establishing a new game franchise requires a considerable amount of will, determination, and love. Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with Sega, the previous games publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo.

Along with their new hardware, Nintendo, as a company, is dedicated to establishing a new future for the games industry, as you can tell by their record of passionate support for gaming. Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch. As developers, we are working hard to make this a reality

Well tbh PS3 couldn't even run the original well due to the lack of RAM. What chance has it got to run this?

Like I've said in another thread. An exclusive going multiplat is cool. A multiplat going exclusive sucks. This is the only reason I'm buying a WiiU.

This kind of sucks for me. I like Bayonetta and want to play this game but I'm not buying a WiiU any time soon just for one game.

The sad thing is that in may, when Bayonetta 2 was canceled, there was not even 10% of all the whining and crying we see now. Pathetic

No it won't... Most people that bought the Wii use it for Wii sports or Wii sports resort and maybe by a miracle bought Mario Kart Wii. We all know those people aint going to buy Bayonetta... boy they're stupid..... people that buy nintendo console never really care for 3rd Party games.. they only care for Mario and Zelda... There's reall no reason for complaining about Bayo 2 going to the Wii-U, seeing as how if it weren't for Nintendo the game probably would have never been made.

The amazing irony of this is the cheap little shot taken by some consolites on this board yesterday in a thread about a couple of PC gamers complaining about Terraria going to consoles and then THE SAME day far more consolites sh!t the bed over Bayonetta!

Exclusive -> Multiplat =/= Multiplat -> Exclusive

Pretty bad analogy.

And mind you it doesn't even go exclusive on one of the platforms it was initially on.

It boils down to money. Remember that Sega basically said they were out of the console games market in favor of mobile. On the consoles and PC they basically said they would only be publishing a few key franchises going forward (read: anything with Sonic on it). I'm sure Nintendo is taking some of that financial risk away by fronting some cash, just in the name of getting a launch exclusive. Not a bad idea at all. Platinum games had the franchise and just needed a publisher to fund the sequel (replacing Sega), Nintendo has a new machine and needs some games for it. Sounds like a win-win. As we've seen, these types of deals don't always mean the game remains exclusive forever (Ninja Gaiden Sigma). Although it's pretty rare, guess it depends on the type of contract (how much did Ninty pay?) and whether there is enough interest (i.e. what if this game only sells 50,000 copies).

Well tbh PS3 couldn't even run the original well due to the lack of RAM. What chance has it got to run this?

quickposter

Bayonetta wasn't even a demanding game at all. Bayonetta was screwed up on PS3 because it was initially designed only as a 360 exclusive throughout it's entire development process, then at the absolute last second SEGA decided it should be ported to PS3. They hired a 3rd party company to port it (not Platinum games). If Platinum games had ported it or had developed it all along for PS3 it would have been fine, but the 3rd party company couldn't do the job in the time/budget they had (or maybe they just sucked). I would say after all the patching to fix the original butchery of porting it to PS3, it's better to have a somewhat gimped version of Bayonetta on PS3 than not at all (360 only).

It was originally cancelled by Sega, so within that context, it makes perfect sense.

---

At the end of the day, Bayonetta became a dead franchise when Sega dropped it. It seems like Sega at least helped them pick up another publisher to help fund the project. It was either Nintendo or bust.

Another publisher could have come in, but there are just too many variables.

More people should have bought it when it was multiplatform. Now those who didn't buy it can't b!tch now that it is exclusive. Personally, I enjoyed the game, but it wasn't something highly memorable or lasting. I'll play the sequel when I get the chance.

If I wasn't getting a WiiU, I wouldn't be very happy right about now.

Their reasoning seems odd. If they wanted to reach a wider audience, wouldn't they just release Bayonetta 2 for all 3 consoles? Unless there have been money issues or something.

Game sold 1.35 million, not sure how many more people needed to buy it (especially since it didn't reek of high budget or lots of advertising).

Sega cancelled development of the game.

I know this already, why not just say "due to financial concerns the sequel had to be cancelled, but with our partnership with nintendo we can now make the sequel!" Saying it's going to more gamers now is a bullsh!t, it reaches less people as an exclusive and ignores the fanbase of 1.35 mil that bought the game. They needed to be honest here, I think more people would have taken the honest reason (because it's actually a really legit one) over this PR BS.

That's probably the most likely reason. People complaining about it going exclusive are forgetting that the game was cancelled a few months back. If not for Nintendo, the game may have stayed that way.

Good for them taking a chance with Nintendo's new system. Bayonetta 2 has to end up as a timed exclusive. How many Wii U consoles will be sold by March 2013. 4 months worth of sales. But will it be enough to make the developmental costs of Bayonetta 2 back.

While this is a noble move to support Nintendo, PS3 and Xbox 360 ports will be coming just how soon is to be determined.

If the Wii is an indicator of third party sales, I doubt it will sell well on the Wii U.
