how was u3 opening any different to u2 in terms of combat/pacing. Both starting out similarly campzor
They are completly different. They are not similar at all.
I think I should add another point to my list...the stealth in UC3 is completly broken. Now, the stealth in UC2 wasn't super great, but it was good enough that you can take out whole groups of enemys or dwinddle them down to give you a starting advantage. It was well designed considering it was a pretty small part of the game. In UC3, I find it very difficult and almost impossible to stealth my way through any of these sections. The enemys seem to have super sonic hearing and sharp as hell seeing capabilities. I wouldn't have much of a problem with this, but the game seems to give you the impression that you can stealth your way through certain sections of the game without alerting a whole bunch of guards. I managed to do this once, but I had to reload my check point like three times before I could actually get it right.
I was expecting The Last Crusade, Which it was neatly set up with the Trailers and the Opening of the Game for it, but what I got instead was Back to the Future Part III.
Still great, but not the epic story I expected.
You weren't really hunted down by an Evil Rich Guy Hellbent on gaining Power, No, You were Followed as you got Lead after Lead, with the Bad Guys having you do all the Dirty work while they took the thing you work so hard for (ala National Treasure and Indiana Jones The Last Crusade)
There wasn't a Train Scene no matter how much it was teased in the Multiplayer and the Scenery, Seriously I was expecting an Amazing Escape using a Train in that one scene.
Tenzin had More of a Part than Salim (or however you spell their names.)
Only a Portion of the Game was Flash Back in Uncharted 3, Uncharted 2, Pratically the whole game was Flash Back.
All of the Characters in one way or another in Uncharted 2 Teamed Up Together and got their hands dirty in the Final Parts of Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3? No half the cast pratically gave up, because it was "Too Dangerous."
this is only a portion and I hope there isn't anything there that's too spoilery in there.
As far as the campaign goes, I wasn't disappointed at all. I thought it was great. I just love the jokes and the outrageous situations Drake always finds himself in. I haven't played Batman, but I enjoyed the Melee combat in this game. The bar fight ws awesome! But there were some things I didn't like of course.
SPOILERS!!!!!!
I wanted to know why Marlow so desperately wanted to get the Jar filled with the hallucinogenic stuff. What was she planning on doing exactly? It seemed like they already had a hallucinogenic drug too, but whatever. The aiming felt weird, but I got used to it. Changing the sensitivity helped as well. I didn't like how you never hear from Chloe and Cutter again. Once again everyone is looking for an ancient lost city and once again we have to escape while it destroys itself. And why did they take out the cheats???
End Spoilers
My complaints didn't take away the enjoyment I got from the campaign though. Very good game.
only thing i 'hated' were the repetitive melee moves/sequences... at first they were fun but then got a bit boring... However its always fun kicking some enemy a$$ :)
As for the rest I dont know how UC3 can disappoint, the whole campaign was fun, action-packed and with some of the most cinematic moments I ever had the pleasure to play in a game...
While I accept the fact that not everyone is interested in the game or felt like the game met his/her (personal) expectations, those who played it cannot say its a bad game or else not on par with UC2..
I liked it, but felt like it was missing some kind of "pizzaz". SOme chapters were really just work to get through, and not too hard to figure out. The battles were very uneven, either the AI was really dumb or they were perfect aim insta-kill. I really had no problem with the writting or cutscenes, but i'd have liked a bit more to the game, have it longer, and have more of an action based opening. I mean, how can they beat starting a game in a train hanging over a cliff with the main character shot in the stomach? Well, obviously they couldnt.
Phazevariance
They could have, but they obviously didn't try. The bar fight was scene was pretty underwhelming if you take into the fact that you do that exact scene 2 more times in the game.

Have to agree on taking out the cheats, and not seeing chloe and cutter again. That kinda left the story unfinished. As far as the campaign goes, I wasn't disappointed at all. I thought it was great. LOL at this thread. If you think UC3 was disappointing, I think ur better off moving onto a different hobby other than gaming. UC3 is one of the best games (along with UC2, SMG, MGS4, and GoW3) this generation has to offer, and very few devs can create something that can even come close to this one. Stop this madness seriously.
post a pic that you own uc3 and ps3 and i will believe you, you have an hour to do so.

Disappointing =/= Unejoyable
I thought the campaign was actually very good but the story could have been better but the multiplayer is a big improvement and a joy. It is so far my GOTY. Not as good as number 2 but come on that game was perfected almost how can you top that.
Best story out of any game? You realize the plot isn't exactly original right? Uncharted had an interesting story, but only because the characters themselves were interesting. The online is average, maybe a tad bit above average and the co-op modes aren't anything spectacular, they are just good. Uncharted 3 is a very good game, but the best game of the year is a game which barely lived up to it's predecessor? No sorry.Uncharted and disappointing together? really? what am i missing here?
Uncharted 3 simply is the best game of this year, best story out of any game, best online, best co op modes, and list goes on. sad to know u didnt, better luck next time
finalstar2007
UC3 is the best game of the year in my opinion. Batman was good aswell, and I won't be suprised if that is GOTY. But it was a bit repetitive, and Batman should have been a bit more invincible. You kick a guy in the jaw five times and he keeps coming up.
The fighting in UC3 was actually more enjoyable, which was surprising. UC3 does the most important stuff perfect, and we complain about small problems that alot of games has.
I am far from dissapointed with the game. I have finished the campaign twice now, might even go through it a third time. The multiplayer is great and filled with plenty of options and unlockables. Great maps, plenty of them. The co-op is just fun, nothing less. The campaign is a blast.
My first playthrough it seemed a bit off during the first few chapters but once it picked up I actually found myself appreciating the beginning more. The story leaves a few unanswered questions, some of which I think were left out for good reason, and some weren't. Marlo didn't get enough screen time nor did Talbot. The game can be a bit glitchy at times but nothing game breaking.
But overall I have enjoyed Uncharted 3 A LOT. Let me put it this way... I have NEVER beat a game twice in a row before (I have attempted it but usually get bored on the second playthrough and stop) but with Uncharted 3 I did finish a second playthrough. For me this is my personal GOTY pick so far.
You did not play Uncharted 3...not only is there nothing boring about the game at all, many of the cutscenes and dialogue within the game explain story elements that seemed like they were overlooked, such as the final level...
How could I be disappointed with the greatest game ever made, let alone from this generation? Anyway, you know they have leave some things unanswered to leave room for sequels and side games. Your questions will be answered.
Specifically the campaign, the entire experience just felt like a major step down compared to Uncharted 2. The main things that killed U3 for me was
1. Very slow and boring opening chapters.
2. Very very weak villains
3. Ending does nothing to explain the many questions the story arises.
Number 3 is probably my biggest complaint. The game has a ton of build up with a lot of unanswered questions about the Villains, Drake, Sully, etc. However, the game fails to answer these questions. I feel like there are some major obvious plot holes that the game seems to ignore completely.
Uncharted 3 felt more like they were trying to give the player a cinematic experience without the good story and memorable characters this time around. Well...at least the multiplayer is pretty good.
JangoWuzHere
I didn't feel like reading the whole thread... but what questions in #3. Only think I guess you can say isn't explained is why Talbot
didn't get hurt after he got shot , but I think he was wearing armor or something, idk
maybe this was answered already in this thread.. ehh
My god people here are in denial about the game. U3 is a lot weaker than U2. I have posted my many reasons and problems with the game in the official thread and so have others. There are glaring holes in the plot. The villains are awful, even though they said they were the best in Uncharted history. The game lacked focus and clarity that U2 had. I feel like they spent too much time on set pieces graphics and motion captured cutscenes that it took away from the game itself and it had no pacing. Just always fights and set pieces. U2 had much more of a slowdown. Also I think they might have spent too much time on the MP and neglected the SP a bit

SO what about the card in cutters pocket, how talbot got shot and nothing happened, how he could vanish, what about drakes real name? there are huge problems in the story and and uncharted game to suddenly become ambiguous is stupid. Its not good at it
I've only gone through the first 6 chapters in the game:
1. I loved the opening sequence bar fight. Not every game has to or should open with you shooting someone in the face or the world exploding around you.I thought it was a pretty good intro to a new member of Drake's team(and a good one)
2. The graphics are kind of rough.I remember people going nuts about them when the game was first announced. The game has a great style about it though.
3. I love these characters. They have such a natural feel to them, nothing comes across as forced. You get the feeling that all of these guys have a shared past and it comes across really well.
4. Unfortunately, I'll never play the multiplayer. I rented the game and the multipass BS has reared it's ugly head, insuring that I will never buy it..
Just finished it. The ending put into perspective some parts of the game which were weird (especially the one slightly before the ending). All in all I'm just slightly disappointed - UC2 was better for me. But it's only minor stuff , mostly to do with the pacing. The game still had its amazing moments ...

I could not agree more. Big step back, I give it an 8.0 or an 8.5. Uncharted 2 was the better game.
Everyone who says that the game was disappointing because you hyped it too much, I did not expect it to be better than Uncharted 2, but I didn't think it would be difficult to get 12 more hours of Uncharted 2 right (I expected Uncharted 2.5 here). Instead, the game didn't even get that. I expected an 8.5 here and frankly, they were being generous in giving it a 9. The melee combat was the big improvement but its still not as good as Batman. Pretty much everything else was a step back for the series. It was shorter, the story was looser, the shooting wasn't as tight, and a huge amount of puzzles and parts where you just walk murder replay value. Uncharted 2 is the better game without nostalgia.
If I played Uncharted 2 after I played Uncharted 3, I would still say Uncharted 2 is the better game.

hand to hand combat is better because they basically rip off Arkham Asylum. Drake can now fight multiple guys at once and counter with the /\ button. Its their opinion, but after inFamous 2 got a 7.5 and even Arkham City a 9.0, I feel like their standards are substantially higher than they have been recently. I think inFamous 2 is a better game and I think Arkham City is the game of the year as of now. These are my opinions, but I feel like Tom may have felt like an 8.5 would have quite a substantial amount of unnecessarybacklash. Also, even if standards have not risen over the past two years, I do not think Uncharted 2 is the better game by half a point. I think its a vastly better game than 3, I think that yields a point difference. To be fair to the review, there would be a lot of complaining if it scored an 8.5. The score system is stupid anyways, I don't blame the review, but my experience with the game was not a "9".
Edit: I didn't want to quote the entire twitter so I'm posting here.
That does explain quite a bit. I still wish it was clearer in the game and the fact that there are only 5 heros kinda makes me feel like they shouldn't have wasted time scaring them and just killed them. That being said, its interesting. I'll replay the game with this in mind.

And should we have to find out over the internet? I think she just explained over twitter because people were annoyed by it being left ambiguous in game. It should have been in the game. Uncharted was never about open endedness. It was always about wrapping everything up and I think these things slipped their minds to include when making the game so Amy henning did damage control

Well that was done in Uncharted 2 as well. But I bought Arkham City the same day I bought Uncharted 3. I played Uncharted, beat it, moved on to Arkham City and its pretty obvious that Uncharted 3 wanted Batman's melee. The melee in that game was incredibly well done. I don't think it was a bad change for Naughty Dog but I do think that Batman still does it better. I agree with you.
I'm sorry but that explanation is so lame. They shouldn't have even put that stuff in the game if they weren't going to answer it properly.

What? Gears 2 is 720p. 1080p would kill the FPS on these games.Uncharted 3 is a great game.. It's not an amazing game by any means, but it's still a great game. It had unfathomable hype to live up to and in my opinion it met it but the game falls short on a few key points .....
Biggest Problems;
The ending. Seriously, way too leave me with more questions then I started with.
Too short. Anyone else feel like it wasn't as long as Uncharted 2?
Environments weren't polished. I cannot tell you how many times I tried jumping, climbing, or going to an edge that simply didn't exist.
Nathan's movements seem extremely sloppy. Sluggish animations at times, lack-luster cover system, Nathan will "touch" a wall and do a complete 180.
To a much lesser extent; It's not done in 1080p. Seriously, even Gears of War 2 (yes, TWO) was done in 1080p.
Competitive Multiplayer still sucks...
---
Other than that? Yeah, great game, it's not GOTY by any means but it's definitely the best game that the PS3 has offered us this year. It's definitely worth every bit of the 9 it was given on this website.

The card in Cutters pocket was explained by Amy Hennig but they should have had some sort of explanation in game. Marlow and Talbot's intentions were never fleshed out. How Talbot was able to vanish and how he survived was never explained. But other than that everything else is fine. I thought it was good that they never mentioned Nate's REAL name. Because it didn't matter. He left that behind, he truly did earn the name Drake. And that's who he is.
It's not as much of a mess as you or others would like to say it is. You can say some of us are in denial. I clearly am not, but I still prefer Uncharted 3 Drake's Deception over Uncharted 2 Among Thieves (which still holds up incredibly well)
Ok the name thing I can get by. But having to explain things in a damn twitter feed is unacceptable. For any game ever. If there are questions raised in a game they should be resolved by games end. Especially an Uncharted game that never ends on a cliffhanger. Also her explanations on twitter were just bad anyway "a bullet proof vest and an escape wire" I mean come on. That's just lame. I know its a logical explanation but with so much mystery around their characters she could have tried a little harder. She just didn't have a good way to explain it so said "its often a logical answer" either way its ignorant to explain parts of your game in a twitter feed and not the game itself
