OUCH! Battlefield 3 just lost 34k of its preorders, and rising!

I already have the Limited Edition pre-ordered off of Newegg. Don't intend to cancel now. However, DICE really needs to fix that Metro map before release. I'm tired of people setting A on the first set of M-com stations and then falling through the floor and shooting me from under while I try to disarm the charge. That and snipers hiding in rocks are the two most annoying with the game.

I don't understand why these people have to be described as completely ignorant. Just because they cancelled their preorder doesn't mean that they don't know what a beta is and it also doesn't mean they are CoD fanboys.

Me personally, this game was going to be a first day buy for me but now I'm just going to back off for a while before picking it up. Its not because I don't know what a beta is. Its just that I don't believe in miracles. Seriously, how can DICE fix ALL those problems in 3 weeks. And then people want to say it was an old build; well then why are they trying to test out an old build soo late in its production state?

I mean sure the map was terrible, but that isn't even what I'm basing my faults with it on. I don't like the prone system, the stopping power on the guns are rediculous, the party system is a joke and the textures are really ugly. If these are just the core mechanics of the game, beta or not, then I don't think I'm interested.

Either way, I don't feel sorry for DICE at all. If this is an "old" build then they shouldn't be surprised that people are angry. A beta is suppose to iron out bugs, and all this beta did was point out all the flaws.

If worse comes to worse then I'll just go back to BC2. Thats probably one of my favorite FPS so its all good. And that beta was great.

Wasdie

Betas are never the newest build, ever. Sony and Microsoft's content distribution would not let them put out a new version before the game even releases. They said in limbo for over a month waiting for those two to get their crap together. DICE is also not going to bother wasting time updating a beta.

This is why they need ot NOT do open betas anymore. People have absolutly no idea how they work. Open beta's of Gears and Uncharted are literally glorified demos while BF3's was a true beta, bugs and all. The word beta this gen has become the same as demo in the eyes of most people.

DICE does not need external QA to test for bugs. They have internal QA that does that. This beta was to stress test servers and get community feedback on the latest UI and battlelog implementation. The bugs will all be fixed by launch.

In all fairness Wasdie, while the intended purpose of a beta is to find bugs and squash them - the beta might as well be a demo. It's puts the product into public hands and is essentially a form of marketing in that a good beta can generate hype and a bad one can greatly diminish it.

Haven't played BF3 beta, so I make no direct comment on it's quality. I just think it's silly to diminish the potential marketing aspect of a beta. Minecraft has been in beta for ages afterall - and that has been the entirety of it's marketing. Bugs and all.

They tried to cater to COD fans with metro. Bad idea IMO.

EDIT:

Oh and the console version sucked. Virtually unlplayable, huge letdown. BC2 was a blast and still is.

I know a few people that wanted to cancel their pre-order... I just told them to wait and see because it is a beta... And if the final version is just as bad... Never buy another Dice game again. Simple! The 4 things I hate about the game is this. 1. Spotting 2. Lag players (30-70ms ping players should always have the adantage over 150-250ms ping players not the other way round). 3. The bullet glitch that makes you die in 1 shot. 4. Wall glitch.

And that's the problem. I believe the bugs will be fixed, no question. But what about fundamental gameplay mechanics, will those change? The horrendous party system, where you're just randomly put in a squad. The incredibly dumb decision of only allowing to customize options when alive. When I first installed the beta there I was customizing my controls when suddenly I'm killed and kicked off that screen. This happened a couple of times until I decided to hide and prone somewhere. How dumb is that?! And where's the comm rose?!? And where's the destruction? And now we can spawn on every team member? Where are the squad leaders? And I thought health-regen was supposed to be slower, it feels at least as fast as BC2, no use for medkits.

We're not talking about bugs they can fix, these are fundamental things. This was supposed to feel like BF2/2142 and it really doesn't.

I'm really thinking about cancelling my preorder. I don't know, I may want to hold it just to see if the final game really delivers.

They had to. They were under a legal obligation ever since EA thought it was a good idea to offer early access to the BF3 Beta when Medal of Honor came out. The final product will tell the story though.

Kickinurass

Betas don't have a single purpose, they can be for whatever the QA department needs. They should NOT have made a public beta because people refuse to understand that this was another stress test and final chance for the community to speak about the UI and Battlelog and maybe do some weapon balancing.. This was not to squash bugs.

Minecraft is NOT a typical beta. Notch does not release every build of the game for external testing because he's marketed his beta as a retail game and can't get away with that.

A beta should not be used as marketing, especially when it's a real beta and not nearly representative of the final quality of the game.

nunovlopes

Now here's where real beta testing comes. They've heard the compalints about Battlelog and will probably address them. They said the party system wasn't fully implemented and the squad system isn't fully implemented for the beta either. This was the positive feedback they needed and they'll probably fix that.

There is not a lot of destruction down in the metro and they even disabled a lot of the environmental destruction when you're outside due to a lot of players falling through the level. Caspian border has far more destruciton with entire buildings getting blown away. You can't relaly blow holes through the solid rock wall in a metro station.

The health regen does not work when you're in battle, apparently the entire squad system is broken and you aren't supposed to be able to spawn off of squad mates, only the leader, and there are a bunch of other things (like the comm rose) that aren't even in the beta.

What I have noticed is that the true Battlefield fans were hoping for a sequel of Battlefield 2 and not Bad Company which to me this game should just be Bad Company 3 to be honest. Plays the same, relatively looks the same minus some graphical differences, same unlock system but they tacked on 64 players, planes and brought back prone.

I can't figure out the current Battlefield community it seems to be split between the original franchisce people (BF1942, BFV, BF2 and BF2142) and the people who discovered Battlefield through the lesser Bad Company franchise. The amount of people complaining about prone then going on about how it worked fine in Bad Company 2 wihtout one just boggles my mine since prone has been a part of the true series since day 1. I just don't get it.

I've played the beta whether its super old or not isn't the point I just don't feel like the original formula of the Battlefields are present in here.

tbh, I decided to pass on this game not because of the beta demo, but rather the ridiculous DRM that requires you to visit a web page, install browser plugin to launch the game from the web in order to play it.

This just couldn't be more anti-consumer from EA.

So thank you EA, I'll pass, there are still sane publishers out there who deserve my support.

Then they should have had the Beta back in August and had a multiplayer demo running right now like Uncharted 3 has done. They released the Beta so close to launch that it will be looked at as a demo by most people. DICE should have been aware of this fact. What is worse is I hear it is an old build which mean they aren't even putting their best foot forward. People falling through maps and such...all the myriad of issues. Most people dont know its an old build, so they come away thinking there is no way the game will launch without most of the bugs still there. The map choice is absolutely horrendous. Operation Metro is at this point one of the worst Battlefield maps I have ever played. I have absolutely no desire to fire this beta back up. They should have made the beta Caspian...period. No messing around. That way, you get a taste of what is supposed to separate this game from MW3 and every other shooter out there. This Beta has been a total Charlie Fox for DICE, and it's their own fault. It blows my mind that they think they could have released this mess 3 weeks before launch and generated any excitement for the game at all.

The beta is a bit of a trainwreck for certain, all it did was prove to me that Battlelog was a terrible idea. Not a fan of Metro, but Caspain is excellent, it is Battlefield through and through. My preorder stands, I won't let a crapbox beta ruin it for me yet, I'll wait for the actual game to release to render my final verdict.

All I can say is thank GOD Metro isn't the only map coming out! Hope the rest are nothing like it actually.

This happened in the Socom community as well. You had the old Socom vets that loved the Socom 1 and Socom 2 gameplay. Then Zipper went in a new direction with Socom 3 with vehicles, generic multi-mode maps, no breathing motion in scopes, and scopes on assault rifles. The game play was totally different, and it spawned a new generation of Socom players which is why Confrontation and Socom 4 ended up the way they are vs old school Socom. Its sad to say, but it looks like DICE is adamant in going with the Bad Company generation. The old game play will die with that choice just like it did in the Socom series.

Yeah, but if that's the map they choose for the Beta, what might be waiting for you in the game? It could very well be half the maps are just as bad. Bad Company 1 demo was Oasis which IMO is still the best Bad Company map in the series. Bad Company 2 beta/demo maps were a couple of the better ones in the game as well. If that pattern holds, the remaining BF3 maps could be a total disaster.

I've been in loads of betas this gen and i've never noticed a huge improvement in the final product especially when the game's so close to release. I haven't played much of the beta but it seemed the same as BFBC2. I think a lot of people thought the PC footage was how it would look on console.

Its nice to see people use some common sense where their money is concerned, if beta is bad cancel and wait for reviews and see what updates bring later, preorders are for games you know you are gonna love.

I've been in loads of betas this gen and i've never noticed a huge improvement in the final product especially when the game's so close to release. I haven't played much of the beta but it seemed the same as BFBC2. I think a lot of people thought the PC footage was how it would look on console.Qwark-PS-Snake
I agree. I havent played a beta yet that felt totally different from the final product...even betas that took place months before launch (Uncharted 2, MAG, Bad Company 2).

Lol at people not knowing the difference between a demo and a beta.

The vast majority of those 34K were probably Cod kids, good riddance.

Sagem28

Indeed. It is sad that consumers use betas as a demo.

All three of which were glorified demos.

You should have beta tested stuff back last generation when developers couldn't do in-house beta testing like they can today. Those were fun times.

They tried to cater to COD fans with metro. Bad idea IMO.

EDIT:

Oh and the console version sucked. Virtually unlplayable, huge letdown. BC2 was a blast and still is.

it's not unplayable, maybe for PC elitists or graphic whores.

People do understand the other reasons for the BETA releases too, don't they? To get feedback from the community to make the final changes? The irony behind it all, is that these individuals who have cancelled their pre-orders, will probably buy the game on its release anyway. A friend of mine did the exact thing with Gears of War 3; it's just to say "up yours" to the developers/publishers because of one slight annoyance. Temptation always wins in the end.meconate
The problem with that is gears 3 was an actual beta changes were made to the retail product directly proposed by the users *maps were significantly changed* But thats the thing the gears 3 beta actually used a build close to what they were using at the time, this beta is what looks to be an alpha build at most stable enough for the users to play but its so old nearly every thing that needs to be fixed is so obvious its already been fixed so what is the point of user input? cause its a demo.

Well they'll probably still take weapon balanacing into account. THey really wanted mass feedback on Battlelog. Already a lot of problems have been identified with Battlelog and are being fixed.

DICE shot themselves in the leg putting Metro as the available map. Dont get me wrong, its beautiful, and occasionally fun, but it is so damn unbalanced. Metro is IMBA for Defense all the way until the last part. seriously, the park area is sniper's heaven. Attackers have to move to cap M-Com stations, defenders can just hide in rocks and crap and snipe u away. Level needs mad balancing. then u have the entrance to the metro. I would have appreciated alternate routes into the metro rather than one small opening. Last match we won by having 4 support guys giving suppression fire whilst snipers picked off everyone one by one. thats how easy it was. When u actually get in the metro, it was a bit more fun with assualt rifles being used and stuff. the last part was my fav to be honest. finally got to see the Frost bite engines destruction 2.0 in action. Overall, im still excited for the game, i just think that DICE messed up with this beta. Oh yeah, the lack of vehicles is completely inexcusable. They deserve to lose those 34k preorders for such stupidity.

There is so many hackers in the beta now just played 5 games... Seen no lie 8 people with gold eagle's level 2. All I have to say is they better be really banning these hackers... because this is getting old fast. Beta's been out 7 days now and it gets worse every day.

i for one love the modern warfare series, but there is virtually no reason for them to do this. they are using the same engine and i'm sure it's already running smooth as butter. we will definitely not have to worry about the same issues as we're seeing in battlefield 3. it will be more weapon balance issues than anything i'm guessing, or maybe something else like the care package glitch.

You can blame the " old build" on the horrid shooting mechanics, awful framerate, camping due to the moronic addition of prone and the massive amount of glitches. Go right ahead and fool yourself. Thats exactly what Dice and EA wants. I was BF3 biggest supporter. Reality is, MW3 is gonna wipe the floor with it in about every aspect. Damn shame too.

I think the beta is what it is. I have put 20 hours into it which justifies me purchasing the game, but I do agree about metro.. I mean what are you thinking Dice? Six days left, better deploy Caspian Border and win some of those people back.

The tweet isn't even real. Unless you're just referring to people who may have canceled their pre-order in general.

Shouldn't have been an open beta for this very reason.

I bet most of them were from console gamers who never got to play Caspian Border, that map was awesome.
