PC Gaming Alliance says: console games are crap

Okay, okay, I kinda changed the title so my topic could get more attention8)

But anyway, PC Gaming Alliance boss Randy Stude is on fire:

"You look at even the best console games, their gameplay doesn't last beyond a release window. There's a release window mentality with console gaming that's only rivalled by the movie industry. When is the next DVD coming out? When is the next console game coming out? You play it for 30 days and then you stop because the experience is pretty much worn out."

"With PC gaming they play and play. There's still people playing the original Fallout and Fallout 2. And if Fallout 3 doesn't deliver on a good experience, they'll keep playing those titles because they'll reject the new version. Just ask people who waited for Unreal Tournament 3. There's more people playing Unreal Tournament 2004 right now than Unreal Tournament 3. Go look at the servers. It's not because of piracy, it's not because the game doesn't look great, it's not because systems can't play the game, it's because the experience with the 2004 version, gamers just like it. And if you're not monetising that experience, if you're not in it for the long run when you launch a title on PC you're probably missing the opportunity. Blizzard gets it. Funcom gets it. The guys at Sony Online get it. You build relationships with PC gamers, not titles to sell to them."

It is true what he says. look how many people play battlefield 2.

I only had to read the first line to know this guy is a complete joke. So console gamers only play stuff for 30 days?, I've been playing COD4 since release day. I still play Super Metroid, RE4, a whole bunch of SNES games.

I know there are many NGB players who bought NG2, played it for a while and went back to playing the first one since they think it's overal a better game.

Not all console players are graphic whores with ADD looking for a quick fix you know.

PC games are great, but not enough genre's are covered.

Call me when they start getting ALL the BIG Console games on PC.

As much as a I love PC games and the fact that the PC gaming audience idolizes longevity from their games, I think he went a bit too far with his statement. That may hold true for the majority, but it doesn't hold true for the entirety. Same with the PC side of things.

I'd take a Total War game over any games I've seen on consoles any day of my life - doesn't mean that console games absolutely stink compared to the Total War series.

Personally I think PC gamers are the most pathetic gamers on the planet. I loaded up Diablo 2 the other day and all I saw was a bunch of people trying to swap runes for some bunch of crap. This is their life, they do this 24/7, they don't even play games for fun. Let me stand in this room for three hours trying to swap this perfect ruby for a shael rune

Hey man, I respect every normal post on this forum, but let's not generalize. True, there are types of PC gamers who play only to achieve some higher goal, but there are a bunch of PC gamers, like me for example, who play PC games for sheer fun.

Now, I'm not saying Stude is completely right, but I'm glad someone actually started making PR in PCs favor.

Personally I think PC gamers are the most pathetic gamers on the planet. I loaded up Diablo 2 the other day and all I saw was a bunch of people trying to swap runes for some bunch of crap. PC gamers stick with games longer. I have always said that. But what does that have to do with system wars? It doesnt mean that PC games are better. Strange last I checked We have the most AAA and AA this gen. So I think they stick with games so long because those games are that good. That's why Ut2004 is still played, because it's miles better than ut3, that's why raven shield and swat 4 are still played, because they still have no rival. We don't care anymore about poor ports as most pc sold this days are so much more powerful than your next gen console that even poor ports will run smooth.

Well, that's certainly true LOL

However, I have to admit, I'm a PC gamer that's not a big fan of much that I'm hearing from the PCGA. Monetizing the experience? Looking towards gaming in Asia as a gaming infrastructure example (possibly meaning more of the free-to-play and microtransaction models)? The guys that "get it" are companies with high-profile MP (or have a strong MP component) titles --- thus, apparent emphasis on multi-player?

At least he does mention the Fallout and Fallout 2 as examples of "good" titles, maybe he hasn't forgotten about the "other half" of PC gamers and is talking more about a nicely balanced approach to PC gaming -- thumbs up to that.

Regardless, there are aspects of what he's saying that I don't find appealing. In addition, while I place alot of value on game replayability, just like the accused "console gamer" I also enjoy, to a degree, the aspect of gaming where one is looking forward to the next big thing! ;)

Call me when your precious console gets decent MMO decent RTS and TBS decent SIMULATION (racing,submarine,flying,citybuilding,life,train etc.) ,decent RPG (those jrpg's dont count they are not even ROLE PLAYING they are just action games with melodramatic story and inventory/items),decent ADVENTURE GAME,etc etc.

+ Emulator = everyother genre

Want to compare with counter strike? The original Xbox didn't have many games to play, halo was the best because of online.

I guess that's why Crysis was the most hyped PC game last year and why Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 is extremely hyped even tough the original games are extremely good.


PC gamers are playing Fallout 1 and 2? Console players are still playing Zelda:Oot, Super Metroid, Castlevania: SOTN, FFVII, etc etc on VC that is a HUGE success and their old consoles.


I'm actually really offended by this so called "PC gaming Alliance" and I hope them the worst future. What PC gaming need now is not a couple of elitists men sitting on a throne thinking they are better then everyone else.
