Epic should be the ones shut down. They haven't put out a decent game since when, the first couple Unreal Tournaments around 1999-2000 for PC? Now all they release are generic set piece 3rd person shooters.
What is this? It isn't even official the thing is going to be called "Xbox" or "Xbox 720" or anything like that yet and oh here's a whole story about features not even confirmed?
@wildamnesia Development costs are not rising. Development SPENDING is rising. There is a difference. You don't need a Hollywood budget on every game to make it AAA, you don't even need every game to be AAA to begin with. If it takes 2-3 million sales to break even you're doing something very wrong.
I'd be depressed over being a part of this industry too. I'm depressed just by how it's turning out as a gamer for over 30 years.
Annual assembly line re-skin sequels (CoD/AC/Madden). Everything being dumbed down and focusing on the lowest common denominator.
"MMORPG's" that aren't even remotely close to what the genre originally started out as.
Horrible working hours and no more creative input from developers - serve the corporate overlords and the shareholders - "play the percentages" game design.
Developers that flat out insult, lie, and verbally abuse you (and other devs) with profanity on twitter/social media.
And now shoddy fly by night projects from ghost developers designed to suck up as much money as possible from scammy micro-transactions exploiting whatever a recent online trend is.
This isn't the same industry I remember always wanting to work in when I was in college in the 90's.
