True, everybody is entitled to their opinion, yes. But some opinions are inherently more logical than others. Regardless of whether one agrees personally or not, the general collective opinion from professional reviewers and players alike points to several excellent games last generation, across all of the consoles.

And it is my personal opinion that there isn't really a WHOLE lot of difference between 'next-gen' and 'last-gen'. Prettier graphics, a few new multimedia bells and whistles, generally improved online, etc. However, except for a few cases, I've yet to see anything that blows the GAMEPLAY of 'last-gen' out of the water. But to be fair, it's really too early into this gen to see a profound difference.

Maybe my use of 'wrong' was a tad harsh, but if you ask me, dismissing the numerous excellent last-gen games as inferior in favour of newer stuff that isn't really all that different just seems rash and a tad foolish.

'Course, I still play all my old SNES and Genesis games, so I'm probably biased here :P

Heh, if it gets AAA, I'll give up relying on GS reviews for credibility. Halo 1 & 2 were great for CONSOLE shooters. The PC is the undisputed king of the genre though, the standards are much higher and rightfully so. If Halo 2 gets AAA on the PC, it'll be scoring higher than games like System Shock 2, Duke Nukem 3D and Counter-Strike. Not really a fair comparison, in my opinion.

Wasn't a BAD game by any means, but I can think of countless games that deserve 10/10 a LOT more than it. I sincerely doubt that it makes very many of the 'greatest' lists at all. Will probably be only remembered as the game that somehow managed to be ranked perfectly while many far superior titles fall into the 8s/low 9s.

For the PS3's sake, I hope it's just as successful/good as what it appears to be derived from.

I don't hate them. Sure, the PS3 has been an industry joke so far (mostly with good reason), they've made some major PR blunders and whatnot, but are people really that quick to forget how great their previous 2 consoles are, and the contributions they made to gaming as a whole? On a side note, I think it's silly to think that ANY big corporation is infallible, moralistic or entirely trustworthy.

Because other game companies/developers certainly haven't been doing that since anyone can remember. 

'Go back'? Heh, I've yet to enbrace the 'next-gen', I'm much happier with my older games, a lot of the newer stuff seems to me like 'last-gen' with prettier presentation and a few new bells and whistles. I'm waiting until I see something that truly strikes me as major leap from what's available now.

Yeah, beat killer7 on the weekend, damned incredible stuff. I'm sure the average psychology major would have a field day with the story, it's deeper than that of any other game I've played, save maybe MGS2. And NMH is one of the main reasons I'd consider getting a Wii. I can but hope they port it to PS3, but I don't think it'll happen.

That said though, Japan's reponsible for some of the greatest franchises of all time and technically the revival of console gaming (Nintendo with the NES), so I guess my vote's mainly with them by default.

Well, SNES had more high-profile games, but I grew up with the Genesis first. Both have a very fond place in my memory, especially considering the latter has my favourite game of all time (Gunstar Heroes).

So yeah, both.
