The Last of Us Remastered is the best thing I've played this year. But that probably doesn't count. I suspect Witcher 3 will be my game of the year if the damned thing ever arrives. I ordered it around 3 weeks ago but it's back-ordered like crazy and hasn't even been mailed out yet.

Haven't tried 5 yet, and I'm not feeling desperate to play it at the moment, so I'll pick it up next year on the cheap. I have a few friends on the X1 that have told me that they actually prefer TTK>>Halo 5 so I'm actually looking into that. I wasn't a Destiny fan, but it seems TTK has made a lot of changes that actually bring the game to life for a lot of people. (If anyone here has a thought on this, please let me know. I don't want to get burned on TTK like Destiny)

I personally think Halo peaked at 3. I think 3 was better than both 1 and 2 in story and level design. Just my opinion of course. Warzone does look like a cool mode and it's the main part of the game that interests me.

Halo 3 was good but the Cortana level is one of the worst Halo levels in the franchise's history. And I didn't like the absence of the Elites either but I guess they felt that kinda had to happen because of the stupid alliance that occurred in Halo 2. Overall it was good though.

Just finished it. Good game, but it didn't feel like Halo. If you buy this for SP I think you're going to be disappointed.

The story was very vague and finishes with a cliffhanger basically they're saying they did half the game and released it and you'll get the other half in 6. Also the story they hinted at in Hunt The Truth has zero to do with Halo 5. Thinking back on an interview with Bonnie Ross the other day where she was going on about how all this stuff was really deep in Halo 5 all I can say is LOLZ she never even fucking played it to be spouting that shit. Also, Locke is just plain boring. He doesn't talk much and when he does he is a personality-free zone and just barks out an order and says something really mundane. Master Chief he is not.

The whole SP campaign was designed around MP too with the stupid 'revive' mechanic and even when you die it doesn't name you as the character you're playing (i.e. Locke) it shows your multiplayer gaming tag which to me is massively immersion killing and further cements the fact MP was their complete focus from start to finish. The graphics aren't particularly impressive either. All they cared about was 60fps so they toned the graphics right down. That's fair enough up to a point, everyone wants smooth gameplay but to me it looks no better than Halo 4 on the 360. Again I feel this is down to forced co-op four players on screen at all times that is their whole drive and motivation and **** the single player experience seems to be their approach to it. Or it might be down to the technical limitations on Xbox One are even more severe than we thought. Honestly, for the opening release of a proper Halo game on Xbox One I expected much more than this.

On the plus side the weapons are fantastic, every single one of them is great fun to mess around with and the combat in general is more balanced than probably any other Halo game I've played. Obviously the constant 60 FPS makes for a very smooth ride as well. I haven't played multiplayer yet though people everywhere have been raving about it so if that's your main interest (and I know for a lot of Halo fans it is) then you won't be disappointed at all.

The single player experience though feels like the end of an era to me. 343 have pretty much ditched it, tacking it on to their MP engine with a couple of cut scenes so they can say 'look, we gave you something' but it's obvious what their focus is moving forward. I don't think we'll ever see a real Halo SP game again as long as the franchise is in their hands and that makes me kind of sad but hey, nothing I can do about it.

As a sci fi FPS if I was to score the game for someone who isn't a huge fan of the franchise I'd give it an 8 (which it seems to be getting more or less everywhere). As a new entry in the Halo series I'd give it a 6. Also, from the reviews I've read and general comments from people who played the MP, if that's your interest you can safely consider it to be in 9 territory.

So I've enjoyed it, quite a bit in fact, but it wasn't what I expected. Onwards and upwards then to Fallout 4 on PC (less than a week away now and I've decided to get it after all) and Anno's not far away, might give Disgaea 5 a shot on PS4 too and Gears of War Ultimate is kind of tempting now it's come down in price as well. There's always another potentially great game around the corner, that story never ends though Halo at least on the surface of it appears to have moved on to all things multiplayer. What can I say, it was amazing while it lasted but all great things come to an end.

Yep, I haven't played it yet (Don't even have X1 yet. Getting it soon though) but this is what I've been suspecting. Guys that have been cooping Halo campaigns forever (More like ruining the campaigns imo but to each his own) will probably love the change. But players like me that have been playing Halo campaigns solo since the beginning could very well be letdown. Ain't saying I've never cooped a Halo campaign but I've never played that way right from the beginning. To me it was always just an extra, something ya might do as a bonus after you've went through it yourself. But those that coop immediately after breaking the seal are legion and it appears to be their franchise entirely now.

I lost touch with Halo when, during the second, the Covenant were speaking better English than ppl who teach English at Oxford University.

I was like..."this doesn't draw me in".

Yep, at that moment the Covenant became less like alien enemies to me and more like Muppets.

Story-wise I think the series started goofing things up as early as Halo 2. I've never liked the alliance with the Elites thing that happened in that game and having the Covenant speak in English was ridiculous. Gameplay-wise though every Halo I've played has been fun.

I can't be sure yet what I'll end up thinking about Halo 5's campaign but this guy's opinions about it echo many of the concerns I've had about changes to the formula introduced in it:

http://www.engadget.com/2015/10/29/halo-5-guardians-combat-devolved/

This whole thing about having 3 other Spartans with you at all times just doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't sound like Halo, it sounds like Gear of War. And that's fine for Gears of War but I'd prefer Halo stay Halo. And I've never cared about the coop, always preferred playing Halo campaigns solo. And now they've gone and made coop the focus with the campaign. Either ya have to coop now or deal with stupid squadmate AI the entire time.

I'm gonna be totally sincere. The Halo franchise doesn't seem to be as absolutely amazing as it looked when 3 came out. This is pretty much my last reason to get an Xbox One totally gone. An 8 is a good score, and I'm sure it's a good game, but the PlayStation 4 has plenty of those, and with this not scoring the 9 or 10 across the boards, the lineup simply doesn't compete against Sony's

And let's not pretend the Xbox didn't need a damn good score out of this. No other franchise is as big for the Xbox as Halo, and even that is going from "some of the best in gaming" to "pretty good".

I wonder what the peeps at bungie think of 343 right now :P

It really doesn't have exclusive competitive shooters that are good. Unless you're talking about Killzone. In that case lol. Kinda amazes me that in all this time Sony hasn't been able to match Halo or even Gears of War with something. It doesn't seem like a genre that hard to get a ball rolling on.

I don't like some of the changes I've read about. While I'm sure there's plenty of fans of them adding a revive feature I absolutely hate that being in there. Don't like the idea of never being solo either, always having 3 other dudes with you. Sounds like they've turned it into Gears of Halo. Games like this are short by their very nature and it seems to me that adding revive, making it difficult to ever get smoked, will make it extremely short. I never, ever play a Halo campaign on coop the first time through cuz playing it on coop kinda renders a lot of the game's nuances null and void (For instance, how does something like enemy AI even matter if you can't die and they can?) and cuts the length in half, maybe more than that. Ya don't have to strategize much cuz in coop 90% of the challenge is removed and ya just blow through the game. And it sounds like they've made it so that if you're playing alone it's like playing coop anyway.

I edited to clarify that I didn't mean that in a smartass sort of way.

Averaging in the 80s just as I predicted. I'm not being snarky when I say that, am a fan of the series. But critics are just plain tired of Halo and I think that metacritic scores in the 80s is about as high as the franchise will ever be able to get from now on.
