The main reason I am not buying portal is simply down to the fact it does not offer me enough content to warrant a full price purchase. I have no interest in co-op gaming and I never touch multiplayer which leaves me with a less than 6 hour SP campaign with little or no replay value (after you finish the puzzles why do them again ?).

I personally think Valve should have released the single player part of the game as a budget title (£10-£15) and done a full retail release for the single player and multiplayer version. As it stands I may pick it up during a sale but by then there will be bigger and better games. Oh and before someone goes "yeah well Quality > Quantity" I happen to be more of a fan of Quality + Quantity > Quality and if a company is expecting me to pay full whack for their game they better give me both.

Yeah yeah I am very aware of Valve's response regarding the save game screen, it was a "bug" surrrrrrrrrrreeeee it was. I am not criticising Valve in any way whatsoever because we all know Valve are perfect in every way and they are totally allowed to pull this kind of crap that other developers aren't because it is Valve  .

To be honest I don't normally take part in Valve topics, people in the Valve camp rarely accept any criticism of Valve no matter what. So it is usually a waste of my time even bothering with Valve topics. However them using a console save game screen was too ridiculous not to post. I remember Crytek got a lot of crap for using the word "start" on the menu of Crysis 2 (quite rightly so), now it's Valve's turn and apparently it is "ok" it is just a "mistake" nothing to see here.

Maybe he has a point? Don't know haven't played it.GeneralShowzer

Now now this is Valve we are talking about here, we must not ever ever find fault with anything Valve do. We certainly must not complain about the rigged ARG launch or the blatant use of console save screens or the fact they have reduced many of the options that USED to exist in source games. This is Valve and they can do all the crap that we would normally complain about if it was EA, Ubisoft, Activision etc etc

Just trying to get the word out as I desperately want to play Portal 2 before the weekend is over.

It is looking more and more likely that this Arg thing is rigged, it doesn't matter how many play the games it won't unlock things faster. In all probability you will get a few hours off the official release date and that is it. Even if you got every single gamer on steam to get involved with this it still would only shave a few hours off the release date.

Yes it is coming out for the PC, apparently it is at the QA stage according to 2K_Elizabeth. Although 2K bothering with QA for the PC is pretty unique in itself. Anyway you might want to keep an eye on this topic here for more news :-

It's a joke. Who said it was a legitimate way to prevent piracy? And you can't say how much that 'bug' will affect legitimate customers unless you ( or someone else ) legitimately experience it yourself now, can you?

SkyWard20

Legit customers were affected by this bug and they did post on the forum. Naturally the minute they posted the error they were accused of being a dirty pirate rather than recieving any help. This is the problem with these anti-piracy triggers, everyone just assumes they work correctly 100% of the time no one ever thinks for a minute "hm this could actually be a legit user experiencing this anti-piracy measure". Now sure after 2 hours the legit customers were sorted out and were able to play their game again, but he still affected paying customers just to do a "joke" on some pirates.

It does stop them, it bans their Steam ID from using the game right?FelipeInside

It doesn't stop or ban them, they only get banned from the Gmod forum if they actually post the error message. I would have thought you need to be a bit touched in the head to post on a developers board for a game you didn't pay for but apparently two people were that stupid. Meanwhile now this is known you can bet your life the "pirates" will have removed the trigger that causes this bug/anti piracy measure.

I really don't know why people are hyping this up. It is certainly nothing new and has been done more times than I care to mention. It also affects legit users too and they end up being wrongly branded as "pirates". Now I am all for discouraging piracy as much as possible but putting intentional bugs in your game seems like a bizarre way to do it, especially when legit customers are not immune to experiencing this bug.

If there was ever a picture that speaks a thousand words about this topic it is this one :-

Have games been dumbed down ? Yep no doubt about it, if you can't see it then there is no point arguing with you. The much trickier question is whether consoles are to blame for it. I personally believe they have their role to play in the dumbing down of games with their restricted memory and outdated tech. However it is also down to the type of player a console platform attracts. I am sure there are plenty of "hardcore" gamers on consoles but they are vastly outnumbered by "casual" gamers that do not want a challenge. They want lots of flashy cool stuff in a 4 hour package that doesn't challenge them and developers have figured out that is where the money is at so we all have to suffer for that.

Don't people ever get sick of this topic ? It's been discussed about a million times, it seems like a thread is created nearly every other day to discuss piracy. It exists on every platform, yes it is bad Mmkay all you can do about it is ensure you buy games and do not pirate games that is it.

Did you guys read what I said on my previous post? It was removed, it was probably a mistake. Sorry :?

KillerJuan77

You might want to edit your original post to reflect the new info and if possible edit the title. I don't create many new topics on here myself so I don't know if you can edit your own title, if not pm a mod and ask for a title change. You have to remember the majority of people don't read every post in a thread, they give the first post a quick read (if you are lucky) and then dive straight in.
