I wonder when shipped became okay?

Not so long ago we would have threads and people would go in there saying "shipped" and that was it.
Shipped meant "nothing special".

freedomfreak

Since forever

No.That's not how I remember it.Every thread that had shipped numbers was rendered useless because they were shipped.

So we don't believe the 360 is at 57.6 million?

Look this is real simple. Remember the "channel stuffing" you guys claimed Microsoft did a few Christmases ago? Sony sold 3.8 Uncharteds to stores and then tried to come out and claim day one sales as some huge accomplishment. As if this is the same or better then Halo or Gears. But if it was sold to customers it would have been the biggest exclusive launch in history….its not. No where on the net are you seeing this claim and its because its not even close to having these kinds of sales to actual customers.

When Microsoft says we sold 3.3 million Halos, they sold 3.3 million Halo's..go on Live and you see millions of people playing, there are midnight launches..hype etc. Did you here about any midnight launches for this game?? Any hype in the local news? Millions of players online as we speak?? No because it did not sell huge numbers. When Micro said Gears sold Huge, IT WAS REFLECTED IN THE NPD as 2m SOLD. Between Japan andEurope300k Unchartes were sold in the week. So you Ps3 fans really expect this game to sell 3.5 mill in the next NPD?? Its sitting on the selves people. Don't try to compare this to Gears, it did not even come close to Gears sell thru numbers. Your being too stubborn

KiZZo1

Your source for European sales?

He means UK. Its all of Europe, didn't you know? Just like the entire world consists of only UK, US, and Japan. Which is a lot more than most Lems think; usually the entire world consists of only US.

Sony said sales EXCEEDED expectations.

I guess lems have to redesign their battle plans which included:

  • Gears 3 outselling all PS3 exclusives combined
  • Cows don't buy their exclusives

CanYouDiglt

Seriously what are you talking about? Cows did not buy all those copies because those numbers are SHIPPED and Gears probably is close to out selling all the exclusives .

That's delusional... What do you think Gears sell through is at now? Sure, it was 3 mil in one week... but didn't it drop to like 2k the second, and continue dropping each week thereafter? Seems like I read an article saying that somewhere... We haven't had any official word since the 3 mil first week report, but knowing how Cliffy likes to toot his own horn on twitter, I'd think he'd have tweeted all about it if it had passed 5 million in the first month. And while none of the over a dozen PS3 exclusives this year sold through that much, there's several over a million, a few closing on 2... Probably over 8 million, not including Uncharted. Even if its week one sell through was only around 2 million, that's still over 10 million combined. Gears will not come close to outselling all PS3 exclusives combined. That's a more absurd notion than Uncharted selling through 3.8 million in a day.

Since forever, as 90% of "sold" figures from companies refer to sell in, and not sell through, unless they specifically say otherwise. What do we use to compare worldwide hardware totals? Sell in. What do we use to compare worldwide software totals? Sell in... or we would, if MS released worldwide software totals; that's what Sony and Nintendo release though. Sell

"Ok... So either IGN lied, or, and this is far more likely, there was a miscommunication between the guy from SCEE and IGN. Even before the IGN clarification, people were screaming about Sony lying. If announcing sell-in figures as sold is a lie, then every company is guilty of it. Sony didn't lie, at any point, during this whole story. Keep on hatin'."

No one is hatin. You would love that. There was nothing accomplished and therefore nothing to hate on. It did not sell the numbers they claimed. You were probably up with the rest hoping the news was true and now start turning to silly tactics like stating "people are mad" and are "hating" cause in actuality you are the one who is upset its not true. Like I said before this thread was created to point out, even as ign reported that news, that it could not be true because common sense tells you that franchise never sold those types of numbers. Its not hating....its fact. Keep on diverting from the topic an soon we can all forget you and all the other Ps3 fans who started this. Thats your plan right??

kbanna

True or false: Sony sold 3.8 million copies of Uncharted 3 on or before launch day?

[QUOTE="ohthemanatee"]

so you're saying two systems getting MORE games is a bad thing?

... enjoy your PS3 :|

ohthemanatee

No. More people getting games is great... BUT... if a system has no games that can't be found on other systems, why pick that system over something else? Exclusives, even if they are outnumbered by multiplats, define a system and offer a reason to buy THAT system over another.

so you're saying that the fact microsoft might have just given you more games without the need to buy more systems is a bad thing? :|

I'm sorry when did I enter into lala land?

Forgot about this thread, till I saw you quoted me in your sig... Awww, I'm flattered. Anyway, I'm not actually saying that at all. Let's say right now, every single 360 game was made playable on PC by a Windows update (note this doesn't necesarily work both ways... They can make all xbox compatible with windows pc, but can't make all pc games work on the xbox, due to varying min sys reqs on pc games). Anyway, say I don't have any system at all, and I want to buy one. PC has pc excusives, plus pc/360/ps3 multis (which now includes all games previously ps3/360 only), plus pc/360 multis (which now includes all games previously 360 exclusive). The only games not on pc would be PS3 exclusives. There's no reason at all to choose 360. You'll go with either a PS3, for the exclusives, or a pc, at least as far as the libraries go. Now let's say you already have a pc, or are getting a pc regardless, and are going to get one console. Its a no brainer, as there aren't any games on the 360 you wouldn't already have access to. If there are no exclusives, there's no reason to get it.

But more to the point of what I was talking two posts, regardless of whether it turns out to be great for MS, or even great for people that buy the next box, by the current metagame, the nextbox will fail hard here in SW. We compare AA+ retail exclusives... If every game is playable on pc as well, it will never have a single exclusive, making it the obvious metagame loser, unless the rules of the game are changed to accomodate it... Like when you have to start playing flag football, instead of tackle, to accomodate the one kid who cries when he gets hurt.

To do: Change password (and make sure that you also change your email password if it was the same) & don't let Steam keep your CC #

[QUOTE="ianuilliam"]

[QUOTE="lostrib"]Just for reference it has yet to be confirmed if Credit Card numbers were taken (even though they are encrypted). Tezcatlipoca666

Yep... exactly like the PSN deal. In fact, a whole lot about it is exactly like the PSN hack. Beach allowed access to account info, including names? Yep. Passwords? Yep, but they were hashed. Credit Card info? Yep, but its encrypted. No reason to think CC data was viewed/copied, but can't rule out the possibility? Yep. So why was there a media storm about "Biggest hack ever! 77 million CC numbers leaked!!!!" with PSN, but I haven't seen anything about the Steam thing, outside of this one thread on SW, when Steam surely has a ton more CC numbers in their system?

It's the top story at Ars Technica: http://arstechnica.com/

Well, that kinda goes along with what I said. 3 days in, and there's one story, with a rather mild headline of "Valve confirms steam hack: credit cards, personal data may be stolen," versus the same site having stories every day during that first week of the PSN with headlines saying things like "Sony admits utter failure: your personal data has been stolen!" despite the fact that the actual facts are almost identical: they both are saying CC info was encrypted, passwords were hashed, and that they have no reason to think CC info was taken, but they can't rule it out. The Steam thing is arguably worse, since it's a pretty safe bet they have a lot more CC numbers stored, so why such a neutral tone here, but such a negative one before?

"Apparently you are mad, because Sony didn't lie"

Haha...stop trying to rewrite history. There is a huge thread on the front page of the forum...maybe youve seen it is says, "Ign confirms Uncharted 3.8 million sold to customers" this thread is a direct reponse to that one because...that is a lie. Sony, Ign , who ever the quote came from was lying. I'm sorry. Your Franchise just does not have that kind of day one selling power. It never has. And when level headed people tried to point this out they were attacked. This is why that same Ign editor had to do a triple take andconfirm it was not sold to cutomers. You know what happened.

kbanna
