"When Halo 3 and Reach came out, there were less 360's sold than there are PS3s sold now. almost 40 million less, in Halo 3's case. I haven't heard MW3s launch sales yet, but all the previous CoDs break their own record every year for the same reason... The install base on PS3 has been going up by between 9 and 14 and a half million every year, and 360's has gone up by between 7 and 12 million every year. Acting surprised that Uncharted 3 might have better launch sales with a 55.5 million install base than a game that came out in 2007, with a global install base < 20 million...? Really?"

No, thats not why I'm skeptical. both consoles have had user bases that were well over 45m, 50m for a while now. Yet no exclusive game has come out and sold 4m in one week much less one day. COD is the only franchise that has consistently sold over 5m mill per console in its first week. Now Sony wants me to believe that a Franchise that sold 1m last time came out and sold 4m in one day…largest numbers for a single platform…right? Where are the "Largest amount sold for a single platform accolades?? Why is this fact not being talked about? If its true its true, but no Sony exclusive has ever come close to that number in one month. We will see

kbanna

No 360 exclusive other than Gears 3, Forza 4, and Kinect games has been released since the 360 hit 45 million units. And while PS3 has had some games come out since it's been in the ~50 or more range, none nearly as big as Uncharted. Uncharted is pretty much officially now PS's Halo. And seriously, why do people keep bringing U2's launch sales up? Are my pots explaining why the games are in completely different situations not showing up?

gears and f4 sales are amazing oh and don't forget Kinect games =PGiancar
What are they up to? I haven't seen an update for Gears since the 3 million in one week based on VGChartz threads, and I haven't heard anything about Forza at all. Do we have any numbers for them, besides VGChartz?

Of course that wouldn't be such a feat because there are so few 360 exclusives.oillort
Did you make this because of me saying someone needed to make this thread in the "Will Gears 3 outsell every 2011 PS3 exclusive combined?" thread? If so, that's great.

Also... @ everyone saying "Gears!" Surely you got the memo being passed around today? 3.8 million/1 day > 3 million/7 days. :P

Seriously though, I doubt it will, BUT it will probably closer to doing it than Gears 3 outselling all the PS3 exclusives, like people were claiming would happen all year.

"IGN updated their article, and clerified that the numbers are indeed SOLD TO CUSTOMERS:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1212156p1.html

On topic. I have a feeling lems wont post in this thread anymore "

And Gamasutra just updated their article and said the number was "Shipped" not "Sold". You are making a fool of your self. Again, this would make this game the biggest single player exclusive launch this generation...where are those articles???? Where is that claim??? Its not true. Your telling me you really believe that "Uncharted" sold more then Halo 3, Halo Reach and as much as COD modern warfare 3 on the PS3????

[QUOTE="sts106mat"] i am officially cross-eyed now thanks lol, cant quite understand whats going on there. I reckon ND will weigh in at some point and clarify what it all means in english LOL. are you getting skyrim btw ian?sts106mat

Oh, this thread has taken a few crazy turns, to be sure.

And yeah, I definitely will get Skyrim... at some point. I'm so behind on games... my list of must buys for the year is LBP2, Portal 2, Infamous 2, Resistance 3, Space Marine, Dark Souls, Uncharted 3, Skyrim...and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few... and so far of those, I've only managed LBP2. :o I'll probably pick up a couple come Christmas time, but might hold off on Skyrim... I waited to get NV so I could get the complete version coming out in a couple months, rather than buying all the dlc seperately and paying over $100 in total, like I did for Fallout 3, so I'll probably do the same for Skyrim... wait and see how much dlc there's gonna be, and how expensive, then decide whether to buy it, or wait for the complete edition.

oh wow, you have your work cut out for you. i tend to play one or two games at a time only and then move on to the next new release. I play catchup around the summer drought when there is not much about. halo CEA is the only outstanding game on my shopping list now, Assassins creed rev will wait until next year.

Yep, see, I knew I forgot something Ass Creed. Haven't had the time or money really this year to run out and buy games... which sucks considering the number of games that came out. I seriously might wind up having to wait a year or two when the next gen systems roll around, to try to catch up on all the games I want that have already come out. On the plus side, I save money on them buying them a year late, so that's something, at least.

This is obviously a Lie. Come on People. Your telling me that a PS3 exclusive, that sold 1m in its first week last time has now sold close to 4m units in one day??? Use your common sense people. This would mean it outsold Halo 3, Halo Reach and Gears2 and 3 right??? Where are the press releases claiming this?? Where are the reports of this being the biggest single playerexclusive launch this generation?????? There not stating it because its not true.

Put it in perspective for a minute. COD modern warfare 3 just sold 9 million day one. 5m 360, 4m Ps3. You all actually believe that Uncharted , and unknown game outside of forums, has sold almost as much as PS3 COD 3 on its first day????? Really?

kbanna

Did nobody read where I pointed out, at least a half dozen times the folly of comparing U2 and U3 sales? The games are in completely different situations.

U2: PS3 install base at the time was about 27 million worldwide.

U3: PS3 install base is 55.5 million worldwide.

U2: Not well known at the time it came out. No huge ad campaign (I remember seeing a Dear PS/Kevein Butler ad for it a few times, but that's it) Previous game was < 90 on MC and had a couple million sales. It took some time to take off, mostly due to word of mouth, then went on to sell 5 million.

U3: Everyone has heard of this game. Huge ad campaign. Open Beta this summer, Subway promo with early access to MP leading up to launch. Commercials everywhere. Previous game was one of the most critically acclaimed games of the gen, with a 96 MC and GotY awards out the ass.

Better advertised + much higher excitement based on the previous game + almost double the potential market = much higher launch sales. Why are people so surprised, other than clinging to the baseless notion that PS3 owners don't buy games?

[QUOTE="ianuilliam"]

[QUOTE="sts106mat"] it had like four "first day in stores" worldwide aswell as it released on different days in different countries. this is now stupid. sts106mat

That's true.. I think the standard practice when talking first day sales/first week sales, whatever of products that launch different days in different regions is to align them... So Day One sales isn't worldwide sales on whatever the first day it sold anywhere is, but rather the total sales on the first day available in each region, whether those days are all the same or not. If you look at sales charts on places like VGChartz, they do the same thing: align launches from different regions so the worldwide 1st week may not all be from the same week if it launched at different times.

[QUOTE="digimonkey12"][QUOTE="Harisemo"] Yes way, it sold that much. [QUOTE="SuperFlakeman"]

I LOVE how Sony fanboys believe it and post happy/praise replies across the boards.

If you add up UK+Japan (two big markets) then UC3 sold ~300k within the first week.

That would basically mean that it sold like 3m copies in US alone, day one. Why are you even posting on video game related forums if you can't deduce that this is 99.99% chance of being fake? Wow.

sts106mat
